This is a story about a family living with a terrible curse.  The adults are plagued by infertility and the young are vulnerable to disease.  But this family is no stranger to adversity.  Once thought extinct, the kakapo is the world's rarest and strangest wild parrot.

Today there is only one breeding populaton left on the entire planet and the normally guarded conservation project that protects it has opened it doors and given one documentary maker unprecedented access to the Kakapo Recovery Program.

With the help of a Spanish avian artificial insemination expert, some old men, a team of dedicated conservationists and rangers, a cure for the curse is almost within reach.  But the battle to save the kakapo is far from over and the kakapo themselves still have a had to play.

Over four years in the making, this film shows exactly what is being done to bring the kakapo back from the brink of extinction.  Narrated by the filmmaker, it's a rare and moving insight into a world that few people have ever seen.

  1. Wonderful documentary re: the Kakato

This is what I tried to say: For those of you who are (like me) ‘parrot obsessed’ or those who want a taste of the fascinating and incredibly complicated process scientists go through to learn about such animals – or who just need to get a gift for someone who is all (or any) of these things – I am pleased to recommend this incredible video: Easily purchased (at a very reasonable price) from http://www.eStarBird.com
