Parrot Pockets are designed from a developmental perspective. The Pocket is filled at the top to get the bird to simply eat the food as they have. Then, the going gets tough as they must learn more creative ways of removing their food from the holes. When given the choice between food in the dish and food in the Pocket, the Pocket has emptied first, leaving dishes full every day. Parrots are eager to learn and engage themselves throughout the day.

Parrot Pockets are thick enough (6-7 oz hide) to discourage destruction and be refilled, yet can be destroyed. Typical lifespan for a Pocket with a macaw--6 months to a year before replacement! (some macaws or toos are quite creative and need it replaced right away! Until they learn it's more fun to forage than to destroy.)

The leather is CERTIFIED ORGANIC and MADE IN THE USA! Be creative with what you fill your Pocket with! Dried cereal, noodles, newspaper, nuts, shredded paper, wood, foot toys. Fresh foods not recommended.

Be sure to wet your Pocket before using it to open it up to access the interior easier. Soak in water for 5 minutes. Remove from water and add a solid object like a screwdriver handle or hammer into the Pocket opening. Allow the Pocket to fully dry. The Pocket may harden. That is okay. The birds will soften the Pocket with usage. If it is still too hard for the bird to manipulate, soften with vegetable oil or other nontoxic oil for your bird.

Sidney Loves Her Tassled Pocket.

My Blue & Gold Macaw, Sidney is on her second pocket. She loves it! I put Zupreem Large Natural Pellets in it. She has the Large Tasseled Pocket. When the ties get worn off, I tie Sisal twine and pony beads back on it.
